The Cyberpunk Trading Card Game introduces its central mechanic: Gig Dice. The game's four card types — Legends, Units, Programs, and Gears — work alongside dice that represent the gig economy central to Night City's culture.
What are Gigs?
Gigs are primary gameplay elements, represented by dice. Victory requires accumulating at least six Gigs and maintaining them until your next turn's start. Dice values provide Street Cred, which activates card bonuses. Players receive new Gigs from their fixer at turn start and can steal Gigs from rivals through unit attacks. Each individual die equals one Gig; multiple low-value dice progress toward victory faster than single high-value dice. Card effects sometimes require minimum Street Cred thresholds.
Why Dice?
The dice rolling mechanism captures Night City's unpredictability. "Representing gigs through dice is a perfect example of where the mechanics match the lore organically," explains Chris Solis, Lead Game Designer, noting the system creates "genuinely exciting and innovative" card interactions.
The design balances randomness with skill. Many cards manipulate dice values strategically, and players can steal favorable dice from opponents. Richard Zapp, Head of Game Design, states that "seeing players adapt their strategy each game based on Gig values leads to skill-intensive, rewarding, and dynamic gameplay."
