Built for Players: How the Cyberpunk TCG Is Fighting the Industry's Scarcity Problem

We're using Kickstarter to make sure every player who wants the cards can get them — and to keep local game stores stocked.

Since announcing Cyberpunk Trading Card Game in December, WeirdCo has received an enthusiastic response from the community. A lot of the questions we've been getting come back to a single, well-earned concern: scarcity. Here's how we're approaching it.

Three Core Goals

  1. Deliver cards to players and collectors at reasonable prices through Kickstarter.
  2. Enable local game stores to support the game with guaranteed allocation and restocking.
  3. Maintain transparent communication with both audiences.

Prioritizing Players

With a significant franchise following and active TCG interest, WeirdCo chose Kickstarter to gauge demand accurately and "guarantee that all players who want cards will receive them." The approach prevents the kind of price-gouging that has plagued the broader industry, and is the foundation of accessibility and longevity for this game.

Protecting Local Game Stores

Local game stores are the foundation of the TCG community. WeirdCo is partnering with regional distributors for responsible allocation, eliminating multi-distributor ordering complexity. We're guaranteeing allocation to verified organized play stores placing orders before production deadlines, and reserving product for restocking.

We're also committing to a slower release schedule than industry leaders. That gives us time for production refinement, organized play development, and helps prevent customer wallet fatigue.

Communicating with You

We know that earning player and store loyalty requires trust through quality product and scalable organized play. Kickstarter enables direct communication, early feedback capture, and the chance for necessary adjustments.

A TCG can't exist without a community to play it. We're building this one with you.
