A whole lot goes into designing a Cyberpunk TCG card. You need killer art, unique mechanics, and a visual identity that immerses players in the heart of Night City. But first and foremost, our cards are game pieces. That means they need to be clear and intuitive to play with and visually accessible to all.

Today, we’re going to take a look at some of the accessibility features our creative team has implemented across Cyberpunk TCG cards. We’ll also cover selected visual improvements we’ve made to card design between our Alpha demo and full Beta and Retail releases.

Bringing accessibility to our colors

If you’ve read our articles exploring the Color Tree, you already know how important color identity is in Cyberpunk TCG. The colors that feature in our card frames have been carefully selected to ensure they stand out immediately. But when you’re dealing with notoriously tricky colors like red and green, we need to consider the needs of players with different forms of colorblindness, too.

To help, we’ve given each color its own unique icon, which surrounds a card’s cost.

You may notice that the Yellow icon appears slightly differently from how it did in our Alpha demo kit. It’s been rotated to make sure it’s clearly differentiated from the Green icon.

A smaller, secondary color indicator can also be found within each card’s RAM icon.

Increasing clarity with Timing Trigger and Keyword labels

Across our cards' rules text, you’ll see various “pills” — colored labels that highlight certain words. These represent Timing Triggers and Keywords.

Timing Triggers are indicated by convex (curved outwards) pills and specify conditions that allow for or create an effect. They tell you when the effect happens.

Keywords are indicated by concave (curved inwards) pills, and highlight an effect which is standard and shared across multiple cards in Cyberpunk TCG. Sometimes you’ll find reminder text in brackets beside these pills, just to remind you exactly what each keyword means.

You’ll also notice that some of the pills are different colors. Quick and Blocker keywords highlighted in bright pink to make them stand out and remind players that these effects can be used in the React step following an opponent’s Attack. Timing Triggers are color-coded as well: green marks effects that trigger when a Unit or Legend Attacks, while red indicates effects that trigger when one is Defeated. These colors draw on the widely recognized association of green with "go" and red with "stop."

By combining color and shape, we've created a visual system designed to make key card effects easier to identify and remember. Our goal is for these keywords and timing triggers to become familiar after just a few games, helping players spend less time parsing card text and more time focusing on the game itself.

Font sizes have been increased to aid readability

Cards have to hold a lot of information. One point of feedback that we got from Alpha demo players was that some of this information was a little tough to read at a distance. So, we decided to increase font sizes across a few different elements of our cards.

The rules text and Tags have been made slightly larger for clarity. We’ve also increased font sizes on artist credits and made rarity indicators easier to see. Alongside the tweaks to the RAM symbol, these changes should make cards feel much easier to read overall.

It’s a subtle set of changes, but one that makes a big difference when you’re picking up, moving, manipulating, and tracking multiple cards during gameplay.
